Classification theory of uninterruptible power supply system
The uninterruptible power supply system (or UPS, Uninterruptible Power Supply) continuously provides backup AC power to electrical load devices in the event of power grid abnormalities (such as power outages, undervoltage, interference or surges (inrush current)), maintaining A device for the proper functioning of electrical appliances. Usually, the uninterruptible power supply system is used to maintain the uninterrupted operation of critical commercial devices or precision instruments such as computers (especially servers) or switches to prevent loss of computer data, interruption of telephone communication networks, or loss of control of instruments.
In North America, the large-scale UPS used in data centers is mainly three-phase 480V, which is different from the three-phase 208V mains power supply. The European data center uses the same three-phase 400V as the mains power supply.
Power grid abnormality
The use of uninterruptible power systems is to cope with the following situations that may occur in the power grid:
- Power outage (power grid stops working, no voltage output)
- Voltage drop (also known as sag, the grid voltage is lower than the nominal voltage 15%-20%, which may last for several seconds)
- Surge (also known as surge, surge, the grid voltage is momentarily higher than the nominal voltage by more than 10%, lasting for several seconds)
- Continuous undervoltage

- Line noise (radio frequency or electromagnetic interference introduced due to poor line blocking)

How the uninterruptible power supply system works
backup
The backup type is also called offline uninterruptible power system (Off-Line UPS). It is only a "backup" UPS. The mains power directly supplies power to the electrical devices and also charges the battery (Normal Mode). Once the quality of the mains power supply deteriorates, When the power supply stabilizes or fails, the mains power circuit will be automatically cut off, and the DC power of the battery will be converted into alternating current to take over the power supply task (Battery Mode) until the mains power returns to normal. "UPS will only intervene in power supply when the mains power fails." However, the AC power converted from DC power is a square wave and is limited to powering capacitive loads, such as computers and monitors. If the Inverter is a sine wave inverter, it can supply power to inductive loads, such as motors and electric fans.
Online staggered
Online interleaved UPS is also called online interactive or line-interactive UPS. The basic operation method is the same as that of offline UPS. The difference is that although online interleaved UPS does not intervene in the power supply throughout the entire process, it does It monitors the mains power supply status at all times and has its own voltage boost and voltage reduction compensation circuit. When the mains power supply status is not ideal, it can make immediate corrections to reduce unnecessary "Battery Mode" switching and extend battery life.

The operation mode of the online uninterruptible power supply system (On-Line UPS) is that "mains power and electrical devices are isolated, and the mains power will not directly supply power to the electrical devices." Instead, it will be converted into direct current when it reaches the UPS, and then The battery is divided into two channels, one channel charges the battery, and the other channel switches back to alternating current to supply power to electrical devices. When the quality of the mains power supply is unstable or there is a power outage, the battery switches from charging to power supply, and does not switch back to charging until the mains power returns to normal. "UPS is fully involved in the entire process of electricity consumption." Its advantage is that the output waveform is the same sine wave as the mains power, and it is pure and noise-free, and is not affected by unstable mains power. It can supply power to "inductive loads" such as electric fans, as long as the UPS output power is sufficient. Under the premise, it can supply power to any device using mains power.
